I picked up the Smashbox Art. Love. Color./Palettes set during the last Shoppers Drug Mart Bonus Redemption day a few weeks ago. If you want to see everything I picked up during that haul you can go here. I have never tried out any of the Smashbox eyeshadows nor blushes before but have always been interested in them. I hear a few people talk about them but not many! I have heard that the Photo Op eyeshadows are great so have always kind of looked at them. I wanted to get the swatches up before Christmas incase any of you still needed a little something for friends/family. I don't think Sephora carries this one as I couldn't find it on the website, so if you like the look of it, try your local Shoppers Drug Mart!
The artwork on the packaging of the Smashbox Art. Love. Color./Palettes set was done by an artist by the name of Yago Hortal. Yago Hortal's vivid paintings have been showcased in galleries and museums around the world. Here is a quote from the artist from the Smashbox website - "People can’t live without color. Imagine a life in black and white—it’s boring. We need color to feel alive." The vivid artwork on the packaging is a work of art and I think it's great that each palette has the artwork on the individual packaging. If you were to break up this set and give them to friends/family, wach would get a small piece! Each palette also includes a gift tag with a place to write To: and From: on the back, no giftwrap required!
The Smashbox Art. Love. Color/Palettes set includes 18 Photo Op eyeshadows and 3 Blushes, in 3 hand held sized palettes. The palettes are all indiviually packaged so you could break up the set and give one palette to 3 friends! The Photo Op eyeshadows that I have seen usual come in round trios just like these ones. The webisties descripton says that the palette includes all of their bestsellers in a range of shades - from bold pops of color to always flattering neutrals. I took that to mean that the trios in this set would be available at Sephora or at least on the website, but I only found 1 trio that was part of the regular collection. Of the 3 blushes included 2 are part of the permanet line.
Time for the swatches-

Passion - cool toned pink - this blush wasn't as bright as I thought it would be, a wearable pink - this blush is part of the permanet collection
Luster - shimmery tan - metallic - I love this shade, would be a great center of the lid pop
Oxidize - soft metallic copper red - metallic - I don't think I have another eyeshadow this color, its beautiful!
Chianti - deep wine with large burgundy pearl - shimmer - great liner or outer v shade
Nectar - soft matte peach - matte - close to my skintone so would make a great blending shade - available in the Screen Shot trio
Cinnamon Toast - soft shimmer bronze - metallic - gorgeous warm bronze/gold, great to add a pop of shine!
Roast - reddish brown with gold flecks - shimmer - warm brown shade, great for darkening or lining
Sunset - terracotta with gold pearl - warm peachy blush - this blush is not available seperately
I was quite impressed with how most of the Smashbox Art. Love. Color./Palettes set swatched over bare skin without primer. The only trio I was dissapointed in was the first trio in the second palette. The shades didn't have great pigmentation nor did they feel quite a s smooth/soft as the rest of the palettes. If these eyeshadows are an indication of the permanent line of Photo Op eyeshadow trios I would have to say that they may rank up there with Urban Decay! I will let you know how I like this set of palettes in a future post. Which set do you like the best? I think my favorite is palette set #3!
