The September Boxy Charm came in around the middle of the month again last month, I am liking it when it comes in somewhat early. And once again, I fell behind with posting last month.
The theme for the month of September was 'Boxy Baddie'. To me I would have thought that we would have received more edgier products? I am not complaining though as I am quite happy with the mix of products in my September 'Boxy Baddie' Boxy Charm! We also got 6 products in this box instead of the usual 5! I like getting a little extra!
In Septembers 'Boxy baddie' box I recieved an eyeshadow palette, eyebrow pencil, brush, liquid lip, blush and a hair mask. Another great assortment of products from both well known and lesser known companies.
Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette - PUR Complexion Authority - This essential palette is filled with highly pigmented and silky smooth shadows. #BoxyTip: Use the colors in the vertical rows, from top to bottom, to add highlight, definition, and drama. Retail $34.00 USD.
The top row is all matte-Private Party, Socialite, Gala, and Mogul.
The second row is also supposed to be matte, but I found the first 3 shades to have more of a satin finish-Splurge,Stunner, Snazzy, and Epic.
The bottom row are the shimmer shades-Glitzy, Twinkle, Dazzle, and Cosmo.
I really wasn't expecting much from this palette as I have tried another palette from PUR with less than stellar pigmentation, but this one looks like a winner! Especially if you are a fan of neutrals like I am.
Eyebrows - MAC Cosmetics - Self-propelling, self-sharpening, and brow-defining. This pencil will add everything you need: shape, colour and/or density in one streamlined tool. Like a pen, it creates its own just-right point for striking arches. It's also the perfect pencil to take on the go- no sharpener needed! #BoxyTip: Apply to brows to fill in, define and colour. Retail $18.00 USD.
I recieved the shade 'Spiked' which I knew was going to be way to dark for me. Luckily for me I have a freind at work who also gets BoxyCharm and she got 'Lingering' which was to light for her. Needless to say we did a swap! I usually use 'Fling' but I think I may be able to make 'Lingering' work.
Ultra Satin Lip - Colourpop - High pigmentation and a satin-matte finish in liquid lipstick form to keep your lips soft and comfy all day long. #BoxyTip: Start with freshly exfoliated lips to achieve the smoothest application! Then, line your lips with a matching pencil; this will help you achieve the perfect finished look and give the appearance of fuller lips. Next, apply your Ultra Satin Lip in a thin layer for the most comfortable wear. Retail $6.00 USD.
I received the shade 'Littlestitious', it is described on the Colourpop website as a dusty pinky purple. For me this looks like a more wearable shade. I received the shade 'Lock Diary' a couple of months ago, it will be interesting to see how I really like the formula as this one seems more wearable for me.
Loose Blush - Studio Makeup - This lightweight blush provides a vibrant pop of color for the most natural, healthy look. #BoxyTip: Place desired amount of product into the cap of the item, ensuring that you don't use too much powder. Lightly dip your brush into the cap to pick up just enough blush, and apply to the apples of your cheeks. Continue applying until you reach the desired effect. Retail $35.00 USD.
I have never heard of this brand before. I am not the biggest fan of loose blushes as they can be messy. I do like the sifter on this one though, it looks like it could really help with the messiness factor!
Face Perfecting Brush - bareMinerals - This patented makeup brush lets you adjust your foundation coverage by the drop for a perfectly seamless foundation application. #BoxyTip: Apply your favorite foundation into the fluid reservoir of the brush. Buff the foundation onto your skin in a swirling, circular motion, starting on the outside of your face near your cheekbones, working your way to the forehead, cheeks and nose. Retail $28.00 USD.
I always like getting brushes! This brush I think has been out for a bit now but it is still different from all my other foundation brushes with the 'well' that is where you are supposed to use to drop your foundation into and than apply to your face. I am not so sure I will be doing that as right now I am between shades and so i am mixing 2 shades to get a match. Looking forward to trying out this brush anyway, even if I can't use it as its supposed to be used right now.
Don't Despair Repair Deep Conditioning Mask - Briogeo - An intensive weekly treatment to restore essential hydration and enhance hair's resilience to protect against future damage. #BoxyTip: After shampooing, massage evenly throughout hair. Leave in for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing. For even deeper conditioning, cover the hair in a plastic cap to retain moisture while sitting under the dryer for 30 minutes, then rinse. Retail $20.00 USD.
I have gotten a few samples of the Briogeo Don't Despair Hair mask before, but have not given it a try before. I don't usually color my hair so it is in fairly decent condition. I am thinking that I might give this a try after I use my weekly clarifying shampoo as my hair is usually slightly more tangly when I use it.
The total retail value of the September 'Boxy Baddie' box is $141.00 USD, not to shabby for $35.00 CAD. I love getting palettes in my Boxy Charm! The shades in the PUR Soiree Diaries are ones that I can see myself getting a lot of use out of, as long as they are as good on the eye as they are in a swatch. Brushes are a given for me as well, give me a brush and I am happy! I am glad that my friend had gotten the MAC eyebrow pencil in the lighter shade and that she wanted to trade, otherwise I would have given the pencil to my daughter.
And lastly, my thoughts on the August - 'Beach please' box -
Moda Pro, 3-Piece Brush Set by Royal & Langnickel - I have been regularly using the BMX-130 Pointed Blush brush whenever I use the Hourglass Bronzer, it is the perfect size and shape to apply that bronzer to my cheeks and perimeter of my face. The BMX-430 Crease brush is a little stiffer than I like for a crease brush but it is working well for deepening the outer v. The BMX-250 Chisel brush I have to say I haven't used at all... I do think it would work well for a more chiseled contour or with cream bronzer. 2 out of 3 is pretty good though!
Waterproof Gel Eyeliner by Bellapierre - I haven't even used this eyeliner at all. I don't regularly use a black liner. I did attempt to try it a few times but I found that it dried out fairly quickly, especially since I still haven't found the cap for it...My granddaugther really hid it well!
Pro Eyelashes by PUR The Complexion Authority - Another item that I have to sadly say I didn't try out...They do look like they would be nice lashes! I ran out of time to even attempt to put them on for my nephews wedding! Between doing 2 heads of hair plus mine and makeup, there just wasn't any time left to try something I wasn't completely comfortable doing.
#GRLPWR Liquid Lipstick by The Beauty Crop - This I did try! It only takes a minute or so to fully dry down, it doesn't become completely transfer-proof but it is pretty darn close to it! It is opaque in one thin coat, which is how I found it best to wear. Once it sets you don't even feel like you have anything on your lips. The shade is a little deeper than I am used to but I have worn it a couple times outside of the house.
Rainforest Of The Sea: Volume II by Tarte - I have to say I was surprised by this palette after reading so many negative reviews on it I wasn't expecting much. It ended up really surprising me. The shadows blended easily and stayed looking good throughout the day. I used it a lot over the past month but have noticed that the shades that I use the most, namely 'Marina' has started to develop almost a hard pan to it. It is really weird, I have not had a shadow do this to me before. I am going to try the tape trick to see if I can get the hard pan off as it is making the shadow chunky and not the easiest to apply anymore. It is really a shame because I have really been liking it. Have you ever had this issue with a shadow before?
The August 'Beach Please' had a few good products that I have been getting quite a bit of use out of, also a couple I want to try! The Tarte palette and 2 of the Moda brushes were stand outs for me. Do I think it was worth the $35ish CAD price tag is the question though! I have not yet had a Boxy Charm box that I didn't think was worth it. You are getting 5 full size products to try out, there are bound to be a few dudes in there! I do think that the August box was worth it for me, even though I have only been using 2 of the items frequently and 1 I am getting used to.
