Once again, better late than never right?! I received my October Boxy Charm right around the middle of the month again, my November box came in on the 15th! The theme for the October Boxy Charm was 'Spellbound', fitting for Octobers main holiday, Halloween!
In the October 'Spellbound' Boxy Charm I received another great box with a great mix of products, makeup as well as skincare and a mini nail kit! 3 well known brands-dr Brandt, Becca, and Tarte, as well as 2 lesser known-ncLA and Jonteblu. I noticed that for the October 'Spellbound' box, Boxy Charm did not put in the #BoxyTips section on the info card. I hope that they bring it back for the November box, I liked reading their opinions on how to use the products.
Dr Brandt - Poredermabrasion - Pore-perfecting technology at your fingertips, with a professional-grade micro-crystal solution, that instantly deep-cleans and refines pores. Retail $58.00 USD.
We received the dr Brandt Microdermabrasion(black tube) a few months ago, and while I have used the Micro I have not used the Poredermabrasion before. I am looking forward to giving this one a try soon!
Becca - Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Prosecco Pop - Best-selling creamy highlighter powder that will light up the features you love with a high-shine finish. Retail $38.00 USD.
I am not gonna lie, I was kind of hoping for the liquid version of this! I haven't used the liquid before. I do have Champagne, Opal, Moonstone and Rose Gold already in the Pressed format already so I am not new to the Becca pressed highlighters. I find that Prosecco Pop to be quite a gold toned highlighter and am thinking that it may be to dark for me now that I have lost most of my summer color. I think it will make a great eyeshadow though.
Tarte - Tartiest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Homeslice - A full coverage, transfer-proof liquid lipstick with a quick-dry matte finish. Retail $20.00 USD.
Homeslice is described as a peachy-nude, I think that is fairly accurate! I am not sure just how this shade will look on me, but I do like the Tarte matte lip paints! I have a few shades already so I know that I like the formula of these.
ncLA - "Nailed It" Tool Kit - This five piece set instantly freshens up your manicure no matter where you are. Retail $18.00 USD.
I was actually hoping to get the nail kit! I have been thinking that it would be great to have a small nail kit to keep in my desk at work for those times when I happen to get a chip, a hangnail, etc while at work! Now I have a great little set to keep at work.
Jonteblu - Lip Liner Pencil in 943 Brown Sugar - The creamy, highly pigmented formula glides on effortlessly. Can be used for flawless lip contouring, worn alone, or as a long-lasting base for any lip colour. Retail $5.00 USD.
I have never heard of this brand before so it will be fun to try something from a new brand. Thats one of the great things about subscription services, trying new brands and products. The shade of this looks like it will be great worn with darker shades of lips.
The total retail value of the October 'Spellbound' Boxy Charm was $139.00 USD, another great value! I pay around $35.00 CAD a month for Boxy Charm with the exchange. The Becca highlighter is $46.00 CAD alone, so well worth the price. There are a few products that I am not sure will work well with my skin tone, but I am always game to try them out anyway.
And now for my thought on the September 'Boxy Baddie' box -
Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette by PUR The Complexion Authority - I have to say, the Soiree Diaries palette completely took me by surprise! I have found myself constantly reaching for this palette and even took it with me to Ohio on a recent trip to visit my nephew! The shades are pigmented and blend so easily without blending away to nothing. Happily this palette is nothing like the PUR palette that I tried before. Easily worth $34.00 USD!
Eyebrows by MAC Cosmetics - As I had said in the September Boxy Charm post, I like and use MAC eyebrow pencils already! I can make Lingering work, if I use a light hand! Or if I am looking for a more bolder brow I can be a little less careful. The only thing that could make the MAC pencil perfect is if it had a spool on the end!
Ultra Satin Lip by Colourpop - The shade I received, Littlestitious, looked great when I first put it on. Unfortunately on me it turned a dark and brighter shade of pink a few hours later! I was in Sephora and happened to see my lips in a mirror and I asked my sister why didn't she tell me my lips looked bright pink?! She thought I wanted to wear that shade! I quickly removed it! The formula felt comfortable but the shade after a few hours was definitely not for me.
Loose Blush by Studio Makeup - This blush is a really pretty shade and I like the sifter in it. Unfortunately thats were the good things ended for me. It took some building to get the color on and unfortunately it faded throughout the day. A shame really, I like the shade.
Face Perfecting Brush by bareMinerals - I was really hoping to like this brush, sadly I haven't yet found a foundation that I like to use it with. All the ones I have tried it with, it has left me looking streaky-not the look I am going for. It is a fairly soft feeling brush though. I have tried it with UD Naked, The Ordinary-both Serum and Coverage, as well as It CC cream. Maybe it works best with the bareSkin Serum Foundation?
Don't Despair Repair Deep Conditioning Mask by Briogeo - I have used the Don't Despair Deep Conditioning Mask before and quite liked it. It is a fairly heavy condoner, I find it works wonders when I use it after doing my weekly clarifying treatment. My hair feels soft and manageable. Love it!
The real winner in the September 'Boxy Baddie' for me was the PUR Soiree Diaries eyeshadow palette! I am so happy with this palette, I have been using it at least once a week. If the rest of the PUR eyeshadow palettes are like this one, I would happily get more. I have found that you can get PUR in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart, the Soiree Diaries palette is available for $42.00 CAD, well worth the price if you are looking for similar shades. Sadly the Colourpop, Blush, and brush weren't really winners for me. Even though only the eyeshadow palette, eyebrow pencil and mask more than make up for the price I paid for the box.
