My Boxy Charm came in last Wednesday, August 16, nice and early! And surprise, surprise I am getting the blog post up before September!
The theme for August is 'Beach Please'. Not to sure about makeup for the beach, I usually would go without any makeup on!
In My August 'Beach Please' Boxy Charm I received an eyeshadow palette, liquid lip, eyeliner, lashes and brushes(always a favorite for me!). Another well rounded box.
Moda Pro, 3-piece Brush Set - Royal & Langnickel - This MODA Pro 3-piece brush set, features a pointed blush, chisel blender and a crease brush. These brushes will achieve endless looks and can be used with both wet and dry products. #BoxyTip: BMX-130: Use to apply blush and powder with precision, or use the tapered edge to create a subtle contour. BMX-250: With a unique curve design, this versatile brush can be used to apply highlight or contour. BMX-430: Define and blend your creases, or use to buff over your entire lid. Retail $26.00 USD.
If you have been around here for any length of time, you may already know that I have a weakness for brushes! I love trying out new ones and am always happy to see a new one, or three!, in my box! I know that I will use the Blush and Crease brush for sure, not so sure about the Chisel contour one though!
Waterproof Gel Eyeliner - Bellapierre - Creamy, waterproof eyeliner for true definition that lasts all day. This liner glides on smoothly, and is formulated with pure minerals, natural waxes, and antioxidants-making them hypoallergenic and safe for all skin types. #BoxyTip: Holding the skin of your upper lid taut, trace the upper lash line, making the tail end a bit thicker than the inside, and extend it just beyond the lash line. For a more dramatic look, try lining the outside half of your bottom lash line as well. Retail $15.00 USD.
When I first opened my box, I couldn't find this liner anywhere! I thought that maybe it was missing form box. Until it was dinner time and my granddaughter had black 'crayon' all over her hands... Found the liner! We couldn't figure out where else she had 'colored' with it until my daughter picked up her phone, she had colored mommy's phone for her! I can say that from sharpening this once, well actually twice, it is a very soft liner. The first time I sharpened it, the tip came off in the sharpener. I don't usually use a black liner, I prefer brown, but I will give this a try to see how it wears.
Pro Lashes - PUR The COmplexion Authority - PUR's 3D lashes are handcrafted with the finest luxury silk to provide ultra-lightweight, natural-looking, fuller lashes. These cruelty-free lashes are durable, reusable, and safe for contact wearers. #BoxyTip: Start by curling your natural lashes and applying one coat of mascara so your lashes can support the weight of your falsies. Next, cut the lash band to the size of your lash line. Apply a thin layer of lash glue and wait for it to dry. Finally, start by applying the lashes on the outer corner first moving to the inner corner, hugging the lash line tight. Retail $14.00 USD.
These lashes look really nice! I have never tried false lashes before! This could be fun, scary?! My nephew is getting married this weekend, maybe I will give them a try than!
#GRLPWR Liquid Lipstick - The Beauty Corp - An intensely pigmented liquid lipstick that is life-proof with serious staying power! Enriched with Shea Butter and vitamin E, this lippie will give you comfortable wear for hours. It won't cake, flake or dry out-empowering you to take on the day. #BoxyTip: Apply this creamy lipstick to lips, and allow the formula to set to a long-wearing matte look, delivering rich uncompromising color. Retail $14.95 USD.
I like trying out different lip formulas and this looks like a color I may actually feel comfortable leaving the house wearing! I received the shade 'Date Night', I think that was the only shade sent out? I haven't seen any other shades including in anyone else's boxes at least.
Rainforest Of The Sea: Volume II - Tarte - Crease-free eyeshadow palette with the best-selling creamy powder formula in eight, cool-toned shades. #BoxyTip: Apply each shade using your fingertips or your favorite eyeshadow brush-no primer necessary! Retail $36.00 USD.
This was the first spoiler for the month that we were shown and I was happy to see it! I am a fan of Tarte eyeshadows, they are some of my favorites. It says it is a cool toned shadow palette but I see a couple of warm ones in there! I don't usually gravitate to cool shadows but I like the look of these shades. They swatched really well on my clean hand with my finger, lets hope they apply as nice on the eyes.
The total retail value of the August 'Beach Please' box was $105.95 USD, one of the lower value boxes yet. But it is a box that I am looking forward to trying out quite a few products from. I am most excited to try the Tarte palette and the brushes. I hope that I have the chance ot try the lashes before the wedding so I can see if I will even be able to get them on and have them stay on...
And now for my thoughts on the contents of the July 'Cutie Pie' box -
Electric Eyes Palette by Blinc - As you maybe saw from the swatches of this palette, this is one pigmented palette! All the shades are jewel tone, shimmer shades so I did have to use another palette with this one for any eye look I did, but I didn't mind! All the shades in this palette had great color payoff and lasted throughout the whole day. I would highly recommend Blinc for shadows if they are ll as good as this palette. Definitely worth the price of the box!
Ultra-Matte Lip by ColourPop - The shade I received, Lock Diary, is actually a Stain Lip, not matte! I didn't find that this dried down for my, it did however manage to stay on for quite a while as long as I didn't eat or drink much. It wasn't uncomfortable at all, I think due to the fact that it wasn't a matte liquid lipstick. I only wore it while I was in the house though, it just wasn't a shade I felt particularly comfortable in. It has made me curious to try other products from ColourPop though.
Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo by bareMinerals - This powder duo had a matte and glow shade inside, and while I thought they were nice, they really weren't anything to write home about! The matte shade didn't end up being to matte but as well, the glow shade wasn't really glowy, definitely not a highlight shade. Rather more like an all over setting powder to give a slight glow to your whole face, almost like the Hourglass powders, just not as finely milled.
Uni-Brow Universal Eyebrow Pencil by WinkyLux - I actually liked this eyebrow pencil! I didn't find it to be to firm, way softer than the NYX one. I did find that because of the shape of the tip that I had to turn the pencil on it's side do the tail of my brows, it was a tad to thick there. I really like the shade though, it matches my light brown hair great! I will happily continur to use this one.
Spray. Set. Go, Makeup Setting Spray by Project Beauty - I was hoping that this would be like Urban Decay or Kat Von Ds, sadly it was not! The spray oon this was very strong, my face was wet after I sprayed it! It also did not spray evenly, I had droplets on my face. I doubt I will use this one again.
The July 'Cutie Pie' Boxy Charm had a few good products in it, the eyeshadow palette and the Eyebrow pencil were the stand out products for me last month. I am interested in trying out more from ColourPop and will probably continue to use the bareMinerals Powder Duo. With the Makeup Setting Spray being the only real dud in the box last month. Not bad for $35ish CAD a month. I really enjoy getting Boxy Charm each month, its like Christmas every month! Sometimes I'm not to interested in some products but there is always at least one thing that I like in each box. It is so much fun trying out new things, especially products that I might not otherwise try out. Do you get any subscription services each month? How do you like them?
