Time to take a peek at what I received in the September 2018 ‘Wild Flower’ Boxy Charm! One more Boxy Charm to show you and I am all caught up again!
The theme for the September 2018 Boxy Charm, ‘Wild Flower’, seems to me that this would have been a better theme for the Spring! The Blush to me is definitely more of a Spring shade. The Pretty Vulgar palette seems more cool toned the we usually get in Boxy Charm which is nice to see.
The #BOXYFACT for September 2018 - The past two months we’ve held our first ever makeup classes, Boxycharm In Session, in Miami, and Houston. Keep up with our tour using the hashtag#BCINSESSION! Who knows? Maybe we’'ll be dropping by a city near you!
My September 2018 ‘Wild Flower’ Boxy Charm was all makeup! I received an eyeshadow palette, blush, liner, liquid lipstick and eye brushes.
Pretty Vulgar - Nightingale Smokey Eyeshadow Palette - Made up of 12 highly pigmented shades, the Nightingale palette is sure to help you create your best looks. The matte, shimmer and satin shades are soft in texture and the luxuriously smooth formula makes for easy blending and long-wear. Retail $35.00 USD.
I haven’t tried any eyeshadow from Pretty Vulgar before, and this one seemed fairly dark…. But there is a selection that I would feel comfortable using, the top 2 rows! The Nightingale palette is a ‘Smokey” eyeshadow palette and it definitely delivers on the dark smokey shadows. But if you are like me and prefer natural looks there are still quite a few good shades in this palette.
The shades in the Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Smokey Eyeshadow Palette are-Nocturnal (ivory matte), Pillow Fight (champagne satin), Break Free (shimmering white), Darkside (shimmering smoke satin), Hide & Seek (light grey matte), Clutch (rose gold shimmer), Flip Out (chocolate brown matte), Eye Spy (bronze satin), Silver Spoon (blue slate satin), Swoop (cool brown matte), After Midnight (deep grey matte), and All Nighter (black brown matte). The descriptions from Sephora are pretty close to what they are, except I don’t really see Hide & Seek as a grey? more of a taupe to me. All of the shimmer shades swatched great, the mattes not so much.
Laura Geller - Baked Blush-N-Brighten - Add a gorgeous, glow flush to your cheeks with this baked blush. Stunning swirls of liquid pigments are baked in Italy for 24 hours on terracotta tiles and hand-finished into a silky dome of powder. This smooth and lowering formula is paragon free, and infused with skin loving antioxidants. Retail $28.00 USD.
I have only ever heard good things about the Laura Geller Baked Blushes and was happy to see that I would be getting one from Boxy Charm! The shade ‘Tropic Hues’ is a slightly coral-y pink shade which I think will be great in the warmer months! It does have a sheen to it, but not glitter!
Alamar Cosmetics - Ojitos Brush Set - Made with 100% synthetic fibres, these brushes are extremely soft, durable and essential to your brush collection. The flat painter brush effortlessly applies color onto your lids, while the fluffy blender brush can be used to seamlessly blend colors together. The flat tight liner brush is perfect for direct color application on your lash lines. Retail $18.00 USD.
If you have been around here for any length of time, you know that I love getting brushes! Especially eye brushes. We received a set of 3 eye brushes that I think that anyone would get use out of.
Hank & Henry - Liquid Lipstick - Have your cake and wear it too. This frosting scented, long-wear liquid lipstick glides on smoothly while its vitamin E infused formula gives your lips the youthful look they deserve. Its highly pigmented and dries to a stunning full-coverage matte finish that never dries your lips, and never transfers. Retail $17.00 USD.
Hank & Henry, a brand I have never heard about before! I love the look of the packaging, the addition of the owl on the top of the tube is cute! Being able to easily see the shade is also a nice touch. The shade I received is Petal Pusher is a deeper rosy shade than I am used to, but I will try it out!
Butter London - Stroke Of Wow Roll On Liner - Creates precise, ultra-fine winged liner looks with this innovative liquid liner. The ergonomic handle gives you insane control while creating your liner looks. The roll-on applicator does all of the work for you while delivering a pitch-black pigment that meets even your boldest standards. Created with longevity complex, this quick-drying, smudge-proof formula is guaranteed to last. Retail $19.00 USD.
This liner is one of the newer wheel liquid liners…strange! I have to say that from swatching it I wasn’t that impressed, it stays glossy looking even when dry. It was fairly hard to get off as well and you can see from the last picture how it come off on the wipe I was using.
My September ‘Wild Flower’ Boxy Charm had a retail value of $117.00 USD, again not bad for $35.00 CADish. All the products I received in the September ‘Wild Flower’ Boxy Charm are products I haven’t tried out before. There are 3 that I think I will get some use out of and the other 2, not so much!
Quick thoughts on the products from the August ‘Life Of The Party’ Boxy Charm -
Laura Lee Los Angeles Party Animal Eyeshadow Palette- I truthfully didnt even try out this palette, I just am not going far from my comfort zone lately. I may try it out after surgery…but I am not promising anything!
House of Lashes Bombshell Lashes- As I said in the post about my August Boxy Charm, I didn’t even try these out! But who knows, maybe they will find their way into a giveaway soon!
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Totes Matte- I actually only tried this out when I wasn’t going anywhere, on me the shade ‘Totes Matte’ is a bright pink that is way out of my comfort zone! I wanted to try the formula though so I wore it at home! It went on very creamy without any tugging at all, it stayed feeling creamy but didnt have any sheen at all so you could see lip lines if you looked close enough! I would be tempted to try out a different shade though as it was comfortable.
Wander Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks- I did try out the masks, and gave one to my sister to try as well. She liked them but didn’t notice a huge difference, she did notice a bit more moisture than usual but said it didn’t last through to the next day. I found that they did help to reduce the puffiness under my eyes, but I also didn’t find it lasted through to the next day. I think these would be great to use before an event or if you are wanted to reduce puffiness for a day.
Bang Beauty Chocolate Eyeliner- I was so excited to finally see an eyeliner that wasn’t black, sadly that was the end of the excitement. This liner just really wasn’t that pigmented when I was using it on my eyes. It transferred like crazy as well so it had no lasting power at all. Maybe it would work better as a base for a smokey eye if it was set with a powder shadow.
Adesse Sweet Almond Cuticle Oil- I actually used this oil! It is very hydrating and sinks in fairly quickly so you aren’t left with greasy/oily fingers. I have been using this mostly at work, hospitals are dry! It has made me realize that maybe I should start using a cuticle oil more often.
Once again, even though I didn’t use everything from the August ‘Life Of The Party’ Boxy Charm, I did enjoy trying out new products. The stand out product for me was the Adesse Cuticle Oil, I will happily continue to use it and may even finally break out some of the others I have. I was disappointed in the Bang Chocolate Eyeliner, I really was hoping for more from it. The Wander Eye mMasks were fun but I doubt I would pick them up on my own. The Smashbox lipstick is not a shade I will ever wear outside of the house but I do like the formula.
