My April Boxy Charm came in on Wednesday, April 18, so glad that they seem to have fixed the issue with the Canadian boxes being held up.
The theme for the April 2018 Boxy Charm is 'Eye Candy', maybe products to bring attention to your eyes/face?! The products I received in my April 'Eye Candy' Boxy Charm can definitely bring more attention to my face. That would be my guess anyway. They changed up the cards for this month, instead of the regular postcard type insert there was a foldout pamphlet with all the information on it. It is a little nice, the writing is bigger so its a little easier to read!
The April 'Eye Candy' Boxy Charm had quite a few variations. There were 5 different Colourpop palettes, 2 Lip options, different shades of the Tarte highlighter, at least from what I have seen. Im not gonna lie, I was hoping for the 'You Had Me At Hello' or Element Of Surprise' palette from Colourpop. I was also kind of hoping for the lightest option in the Mac Liptensity lipstick as well. But the fun of subscription boxes is that you don't know what you are getting and you never know when a product will surprise you.
Tarte - Tartiest Pro Glow: Liquid Highlighter in Exposed - Glow like a goddess with this creamy highlighter that builds from sheer to intense. Ultra-concentrated pigments & pearls are suspended in the hybrid gel-cream, oil free formula that you can mix with you liquid foundation, or wear alone for naturally lit luminosity. Infused with rose water, it slips softly onto skin & keeps moisture in with tapered, squeezable packaging to put the highlight exactly where you want it. Retail $29.00 USD.
I'll put this out there right now, I am not a fan of liquid highlighters at all! I much prefer powder highlighter as I feel like I have more control over how much I put on. There were a few different shades that were sent out of the Tarte, and I think that the shade I received, Exposed, is the more neutrally looking one. Hopefully I can get it to sheer out enough for me!
Colourpop - Semi Precious Eyeshadow Palette - Highly pigmented shadow that applies evenly and feels ultra-velvety and silky. This long wearing formula contains a unique combination of softer powders which adheres easily to the eyes, gives a soft focus effect, and blends smoothly and evenly. Retail $26.00 USD.
As I said above, this was not my first pick of the 5 options! The other options were - You Had Me At Hello, Element Of Surprise, Golden State Of Mind, and My Little Pony. Semi Precious, for me at least, is not a stand alone palette. For me, it is a palette of lid shades, albeit a great variety of lid shades. My palette also came with the shade I like the most, Celestial, broken. I contacted Boxycharm with a picture of the broken palette with my shipping label and they were very quick to reply that they would send out a replacement item with my next months box. Although they can't guarantee that I will receive the same product, maybe I will get lucky and get one of the other palettes! I will try to fix the broken shade in this palette.
The shades in the Colorpop Semi Precious palette are - Celestial (warm champagne ivory), Beam Me Up (icy pale blue), Easy Go (vibrant cranberry), Up & Atom (golden amber), West Star (rich copper brown), Bashful (soft icy green), Upon A Star (cool rose), The Game (antique gold). When I swatched the palette, all the shadows were soft and smooth. None of the shades felt chunky at all.
Dr Brandt - Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner - This award-winning, pore refining mask is an extraction specialist - unclogging and tightening the look of pores and reducing excess oil from the skin surface. Retail $47.00 USD.
I have received quite a few products from Dr Brandt from Boxycharm in the past, so I was happy to see another one in this months box. I am really hoping that this mask can help clean up the pores on my nose and cheeks! It does dry fairly quickly from what I can tell when I put some on my hand. When I wiped it off of my hand that area felt so soft and smooth, heres hoping it does the same for my face.
The Browgal - Instatint - Tinted Eyebrow Gel - Tinted eyebrow gel with microfibres to achieve a natural hair look. Perfect for the customer who wants a quick, but natural fill to their brows. Retail $22.00 USD.
The shade I received, Brown Hair 02, I think is going to be way to dark for me. I do really like the brush on it though, it is thin and tiny so it should be able to get all the way to the tail of the brows. I will be giving this to my daughter, who has darker hair than me, to try out and hopefully she remembers to report back to me on how it is!
Adesse - Hi Definition Liquid Lipstick - Luxurious, creamy, long wearing liquid lipstick. Provides the dazzling, full coverage of a lipstick with the ease of wand application. Made with advanced polymers and intense pigments for long lasting, brilliant color and intense shine in a single sweep. Cruelty Free, Gluten Free, Paraben Free, EU Compliant. Retail $24.00 USD.
There is absolutely no shade name anywhere on the packaging for this liquid lipstick! But from my tracking number I think the shade is Haute Cocoa. I checked their website as well and it looks like that is the shade, weird that there is no shade name on the package though. The shade looks like it will be my kind of shade, hopefully I can get some use out of it, it didnt seem to dry down when I swatched it so hopefully it stays put as well!
My April 2018, Eye Candy, box has a retail value of $148.00 USD!! My Boxy Charm boxes have always had a retail value of over $100 USD, considering that I pay around $35.00 CAD for the box after shipping and conversion from USD I am quite happy with the value. Boxy Charm usually sends out 4-5, I have only ever had 5, full size products a month.
Here are my thoughts on last months, March 2018 "Bae Cation' box -
PUR The Complexion Authority Eyeshadow Palette- I enjoyed using the PUR palette for the most part. I did find that I kept to the top 2 rows though! I am just not that adventurous with my eye makeup when going to work. Ever eye look I did though, did end up being very warm toned and Nakey and Belle really didn't show as different shades when I used them in the crease. I did like using Duet as a liner, it went on mell and stayed put for most of the day.
Butter London Double Decker Lashes Mascara- I have to admit, I didnt use this mascara at all. I have way to many open mascaras at the moment that I am trying to use up, hopefully I get to this one soon.
South Mane Under Eye Gels- I only ended up using 1 set of the eye gels. From the one time I used them, they felt great on, nice and cool. I didn't find that I was confined to laying down to try to keep these on my underlies, they did 'stick' quite well to the underage area with only. slight slipping. My underlies felt hydrated after using them and makeup went on well afterward.
The Vintage Cosmetics Company Smokey Eye Makeup Brush Set- The Step 1 brush was great for packing shadow onto my lid, although it is a tad big! Step 3 brush worked ok for smudging out liner, but for me Step 2 was a complete dud. The Step 2 brush is just to dense for crease work for me, it was good for placing shadow though. I would not run out to pick up more Vintage Company Makeup brushes.
Pretty Vulgar Make Them Blush- The shade I received, Hush Blush, is the perfect everyday neutral leaning blush! The blush is fairly powdery though, it kicks up quite a bit of powder when I put my brush in. The blush though is fairly pigmented and I didn't find I had to layer this at all.
The April 'Eye Candy' box has some good products in it that I am looking forward to trying out, hopefully I like them. My March 'Bae Cation' box had a few decent products in it, which is good. The PUR palette wasn't as good as the previous Soiree Diaries palette, this one is a little more powdery and not as everyday friendly. I liked 2 of the 3 brushes although I wouldn't rush out to buy more brushes from the brand. The blush is pretty and I will continue to use, but I wouldn't pay $26.00 USD for it. The packaging just doesn't feel like it should cost that much. The eye gels are nice and I will use the other 2 soon. I didn't try out the mascara but will hopefully soon! Do I think the products inside were worth the retail of $115.00 USD? No, but I do think they were worth $35.oo CAD!
