My May Boxy Charm came in last Monday, not bad but still getting toward the end of the month.
The theme for the May 2018 Boxy Charm box is 'Boxy Bash', in celebration of Boxy Charms 5th year. Not to bad for a subscription box! Since it is Boxy Charm 5th Anniversary there is an extra product in the box this month, 6 products instead of 5. The card insert has also gone back to the way it was before, no fold out one this month, back to the postcard size.
For the May 2018 'Boxy Bash' box there didn't see to be much variation on the products. I believe the only variation was the lip colour? Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it was either a gloss by Han or one from Beauty Creations. I kind of like the fact that most everyone got the same thing, at least there is no wishing on things you didnt get this month!
PUR - Sculptor Palette- A four-shade sculpting palette that features two high-beam highlighters and two matte contour shades that will leave skin sculpted to perfection with highly pigmented and buttery formulas. Retail $30.00 USD.
I wasn't very impressed with the last PUR face palette I received from Boxy Charm , hopefully this one is better! The contour shades look like they may be to dark for me, maybe eyeshadow?! I think its great that the palette has darker shades as usually they shades are good for lighter skinned people like me, not so great for darker skin tones though. The highlight shades look like they will work for quite a range of skin tones, be it light or dark, not to mention, eyeshadow!
Coverfx - Blurring Primer - A lightweight, soft focus primer that blurs the appearance of pores, fine lines, and other imperfections creating a smooth canvas for flawless foundation application. Retail $38.00 USD.
I don't think I have tried much from Coverfx, but I am looking forward to trying out this blurring primer. When I swatched it on my hand it seemed to really smooth out my hand, heres hoping it does as great a job on my face. The primer does come with quite a tint to it, but once you blend it in, there is no tint to it.
Pretty Vulgar - The Ink Gel Eyeliner - This highly-pigmented gel eyeliner provides quick-drying application with enriched vitamin C to condition the lids. Its creamy and water-resistant formula allows for smooth application that stays in place all day. Retail $24.00 USD.
I'm just going to put it out there right away, I have never used a gel liner before! I am not a huge fan of black liner, I usually use a brown pencil liner or the dark shades in eyeshadow palettes as liner. I love the packaging of the Pretty Vulgar products, this is the second one we have gotten in Boxy Charm, the packaging on this liner is a lot better than the blush that I received a couple of months ago. The product is quite far down in the jar, hoping that won't make it harder to get out! Any tips on using gel liner? I'd appreciate any you have.
Aesthetica - 3 Piece Eye Trio - The Aesthetica Trio Sreries comes with an Angled Eyeliner Brush, a Brow Spool, and a Fine Tipped Eyeliner Brush. A convenient 3 in 1, used for a wide variety of looks, from a subtle wing to dramatic cat-eye. Use the brow brush for fuller, more defined eyebrows. Retail $45.00 USD.
I love getting brushes in Boxy Charm! This 3 piece Eye Trio set seems ok, I don't think its worth $45 USD though. The Angled Eyeliner Brush is fairly wide, im not sure it would be that great for eyeliner, maybe brows? I am hoping that the Fine Tipped one works well with the Pretty Vulgar liner. The Spoolie Brush seems like the bristles are quite far apart, at least they are compared to the one I usually use.
Aesthetica - P12 Face Brush - With synthetic fibres that allow for maximum control, the P12 face brush is perfect for creating a seamless look. Retail $27.00 USD.
This is a really soft brush, it isn't dense at all. I think it may work great for under eye setting powder or to use with a finishing powder. Maybe it will be good to use with the PUR palette? Might help to give a light hand with it?
Beauty Creations - Matte Lip Gloss - Beauty Creations Matte Liquid Lip Gloss is specially formulated to provide full coverage that dries to a seamless, smooth and matte finish, its lightweight application is long wearing for an effortless lip color that compliments all skin-tones. Retail $10.00 USD.
I am happy that I have been getting lip shades that are something I feel comfortable leaving the house wearing! I have never tried anything from Beauty Creations before, so thats fun! I am not sure what a Matte Lip Gloss is, to me those 2 descriptions are complete opposites. We shall see which it ends up being.
My May 'Boxy Bash' Boxy Charm has a retail value of $174.00 USD. Thats crazy, as I have said earlier though, I don't think that the Aesthetica brushes are really worth quite that much. I still think that Box Charm is well worth the price I pay, $21.00 USD plus $5.00 shipping to Canada, usually works out to be about $35.00 CAD. I have so far liked at least a few things from every box, and whatever I haven't liked I haven't had a problem finding someone who would love the product that I didn't!
Here are my thoughts on the April 2018 'Eye Candy' Boxy Charm -
Tarte-Tartiest Pro Glow:Liquid Highlighter in Exposed- I could not get this product to work for me at all. It dried almost as soon as I applied it to my face, there was barely any time to blend before it dried. I loved the shade so I wish I could have gotten it to work for me. Actually I wonder if I mixed it with a face oil if that would give me some time to blend it?! I will have to give that a try before I give up on this one completely.
Colourpop-Semi Precious Eyeshadow Palette- I was able to fix the shade 'Celestial' that was broken and I love that shade! I have worn it quite a few times and it does last all day on my lids. I used some of the other shades from the palette as well with the same results. I am still waiting on my replacement palette, hopefully today or tomorrow!
Dr Brandt-Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner- I have tried out this out a few times, the instructions say to only use a few times a week at most. It did make my face feel soft, but I a wondering if maybe I didn't use enough as I haven't noticed that it has done the greatest job of cleaning out my pores, certainly not as good as a pore strip. I will continue to use it but as of right now I wouldn't pay the full price of $53.00 CAD.
The Browgal-Instatint-Tinted Eyebrow Gel- I did give this to my daughter to try out, and she hasn't told me if she likes it or not!
Adesse-Hi Definition Liquid Lipstick 0n Haute Cocoa(I think!)- I love the shade of this! It is a great darker nude shade for me that does stay shiny but not sticky! I am not the biggest fan of gloss, not a fan of the stickiness of them. This lasted fairly well on me, it really depended on how much I ate or drank while wearing it. I will happily continue to use this one.
The May 'Boxy Bash' box has a high retail value, slightly inflated I think, with a good assortment of products. Some I am interested in trying out, some not so much! The April 'Eye Candy' box had a few really great products in it, namely the Colourpop eyeshadow palette! I liked the Adesse Liquid Lipstick and will continue to use it, not everyday, but for when I am wanting a more glossy look. I hope that maybe mixing the Tarte with an oil makes it so I can use it, the shade Exposed is such a nice shade that I would love to be able to use it. The Dr Brandt is nice and I will use it up, who doesn't like trying out pricer skincare in a $35.00ish CAD price point?! Did I think that the April 'Eye Candy' box was worth the $148.00 USD retail value? Not really, but it was well worth what I paid for it, even with the broken palette.
