As I had mentioned in my previous Boxy Charm post, I signed up for Boxy Luxe for December. Boxy Luxe is an upgrade to your regular Boxy Charm that ships quarterly, every 3 months. You do end up paying more for it but the value is supposed to be over $300USD, plus you get 8-10 items? I think. If you are interested in seeing what I got in the December 2018 ‘Tis The Sea-Sun BoxyLuxe, keep reading.
The theme for the December 2018 Boxy Charm and Boxy Luxe was ‘Tis The Sea-Sun, a little play on words there!
The #BOXYFACT for December: This year, Boxycharm was ranked number 176 on Inc. 5000’s annual list of fastest growing companies!
In my December 2018 ‘Tis The Sea-Sun Boxy Luxe I received quite a few goodies, one that had been on my Sephora loves list for quite some time. As with the regular Boxy Charm, all the products in the Boxy Luxe are full size. In December I received makeup, skincare, body care, brushes, haircare, and a bag plus charger.
Luxie - Rose Gold Complete Face Brush Set - Get a flawless look with your new, cruelty-free LUXIE brushes. This brush set has every brush you need to create a full face look. Fill and define your brows with the LUXIE 201 Brow and Lash Spoolie and LUXIE 221 Flat Definer brush. Blend your foundation effortlessly with the LUXIE 532 Round Top Blender. Get your glow on with the LUXIE 522 Tapered Highlightening brush. Apply your favourite lip color with the LUXIE 160 Lip brush, contour with LUXIE 680 Pro Precision Face brush. Create stunning eye looks and achieve a seamless blend using LUXIE 229 Tapered Blending and LUXIE 213 Eye Shading brush. Retail $65.00 USD
#BOXYTIP: All of these brushes are extremely versatile and can be used for anything you can think of. The LUXIE 522 Tapered Highlightening brush also makes an amazing powder brush and LUXIE 680 Pro Precision brush works great for blush!
You may already know this, but I love getting brushes in my Boxy Charm. I have gotten quite a few brushes from Luxie in previous Boxy Charm and I do find that they seem to be a good quality brush. The set I received in the December Boxy Luxe had 8 brushes, something for almost every part of a makeup routine. I can’t wait until I am wearing makeup again to give these a try. When I first opened the box on these brushes, they stunk! Thankfully the smell went away once I washed them and got rid of the packaging.
Tarte - Glitter Lip Paint - This sheer lip gloss is infused with shimmering glitter and delivers a luscious, multidimensional and high-shine finish. The reflective glitter gives your lips a fuller look while the sunflower seed wax and mineral pigments coat, soothe and soften lips. Retail $20.00 USD
#BOXYTIP: Use this lippie alone or over your favourite lipstick to give it some sparkly dimension.
When I first saw this lip gloss I thought for sure it wouldn’t be something I would wear, but my sister told me I should give it a try. I am happy to say that the glitter in this isn’t chunky at all and just gives a beautiful shine.
Violet Voss - Pro HG Palette - Indulge in 20 highly pigmented eye shadow shades ranging in finish from creamy matte, to bold metallic and silky satin. The vegan, cruelty free formula is created with finely milled pigments, making for smooth application and easy blending. Retail $45.00 USD.
#BOXYTIP: The shade Crystal makes an amazing highlighter for lighter skin tones, and Toffee makes a nice highlighter for darker skin tones.
This was one of the products I was most excited about. The Violet Voss-Pro HG palette has been on my Sephora Loves list since the brand came to Sephora. I do already have a palette from VV, Taupe Notch, and love that one. All the shades I have tried, whether the matte or shimmer, apply well and blend out great. Once again, I can’t wait for the stitches to finally come out so I can give this beauty a try.
The shades in the Violet Voss - Pro HG Palette (taken from the Sephora website)-Crystal(creamy pearl), Ploof(neutral pink), Thanks A Latte(vanilla beige), Transition(soft warm brown), Hashtag(muted orange), Awesome Sauce(muted copper), Bestie(fawn), Toffee(warm copper), Chill(bronze), How U Doing(subtle pinky coral), Bat My Eyes(taupe brown), Cool Beans(cool muted taupe), R U Kitten Me(soft peachy brown), So Jelly(pinky coral), On Fleek(burnt warm copper), Brownie Points(red brown), Teddy Bear(brown), Glamping(rustic brown), Cranberry Splash(antique red rust), Wine N Dine(cranberry).
There is a good mix of mattes and shimmers in this palette, with a wide range of transition, lid, and highlight shades. It is a fairly warm toned palette, very few cool tones in there at all!
Spongelle - Body Wash Infused Buffer - Spongelle’s Body Wash infused Buffers will cleanse, exfoliate, massage and nourish. This multi-use buffer is dermatologist tested and formulated with extracts of yuzu, edelweiss and vetiver. Retail $20.00 USD.
#BOXYTIP: In order to get the most use out of this deliciously smelling sponge, squeeze out excess water after you finish using it!.
Not the most exciting product to get, but one that most will be able to use. I will say that if you are sensitive to scents, you may want to steer clear of this one. I am able to smell the scent of this through the plastic wrap that is covering it. I do wish that there was a sting attached so that I could hang this up between uses.
Elemis - Pro Collagen Marine Cream - Clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, this is everything your skin care routine has been missing. A potent cocktail of seaweeds has been blended with Ginkgo blob, rose and mimosa to moisturize and visibly improve fine lines. This ultimate anti-aging cream will leave you skin feeling supple, firm and radiant. Retail $89.00 USD.
#BOXYTIP: Use after toning, before applying primer and foundation to give your makeup a flawless healthy looking finish.
WOW, this is an expensive face moisturizer! This is a product that I would not have picked up on my own due to the price. I will happily try it out though and see how good it is. It does have a slight scent, a tad flower-y? When I put some on my hand it sunk in fairly quickly and my hand felt moisturized for awhile.
Wander Beauty - Dusk To Dawn Blush & Highlight Palette - This Boxycharm exclusive launch contains three buttery shades that blend seamlessly onto the skin for a natural, glowing finish. The Wander Beauty Dusk to Dawn Palette offers two blushes and one highlighter, and is specially formulated to flatter all skin tones and types. Retail $26.00 USD.
#BOXYTIP: This palette is incredibly versatile! You can use it for blush and highlight, or switch things up and use all the highly pigmented shades to create a beautiful eye look.
Not going to lie, I wasn’t that excited when I saw I had gotten this blush palette. I would have liked to have gotten the Pretty Vulgar powder more. The shades in this blush and highlight palette all seem to be fairly pigmented, but there is a fair amount of ‘glow’. The pans are fairly skinny so it may take a bit of maneuvering to get a brush in only one shade.
Grande Cosmetics - GrandeMascara - Get extreme length and volume while promoting healthier lashes with your new GrandeMascara. Infused with a lash-loving blend of peptides, pantheons and natural waxes, its buildable, water-resistant formula is easily removable to prevent lash breakage while keeping the lashes flexible and strong. Retail $25.00 USD.
#BOXYTIP: Curl your lashes before applying mascara to give your lashes extra length and volume.
I think once I can wear eye makeup again I may try out this mascara first. I have lost quite a few eye lashes from all the goop that I have been dealing with post surgery. Maybe it will help my lashes grow back quickly?! One can always hope.
PYT - Mini Hair Straightener - Get those pesky baby hairs, straighten those bangs or touch up your curls on the go with this incredibly adorable PYT Mini Straighner. The floating ceramic plates adjust as you style, allowing you to create straight, wavy, or curly locks. This little guy reaches a maximum temperate of 400°F (204°C). Retail $75.00 USD.
#BOXYTIP: Throw this cute little iron into your favourite bag and take it with you wherever you go. It’s ideal for a quick bathroom touch up.
I knew when I saw the spoilers for this straightener that if I got it it would quickly go into my daughters stocking for Christmas. She has a pixie cut and so it is the perfect size for her hair. She can also use it on her daughters hair if she is feeling adventurous. She was quite happy to get it and will let me know how she likes it.
Crimes Of Beauty - Wristlet (+ Portable Charger) - The ultimate bag for beauty essentials on the go. This durable and lightweight pebble faux leather bag is ideal for the jet setter, the trend setter and the girl boss who is always running to her next meeting. The portable charger is compatible with iPhone & Android devices and can be recharged through and USB port so that you’ll never miss an email, or an Instagram-able moment again. Retail $22.00 USD.
#BOXYTIP: This Glam AF Wristlet makes the cutest statement clutch for a GNO or Sunday brunch.
The Glam AF bag is a good size, bigger than I had thought it would be, and a bag I think my granddaughter will end up borrowing for her dolls clothes soon. I have heard that some people are having issues with the charger so I decided to not use it at all. My husband took it as he liked the adapter for iPhone. Not sure what he is going to do with it, but at least it won’t be catching on fire or ruining my phone!
I thought I would give you a peek at the difference in size from regular Boxy Charm to Boxy Luxe. As you can see from the above photos, there is a huge difference. The Boxy Luxe card as well as the box are huge comparatively. You do pay more for Luxe, an extra $28.99 plus $5.00 USD for shipping to Canada, which ended up costing me $79.27 CAD with the exchange rate. With the prices that were given from Boxy Charm, the retail value of my box was $387.00 USD, which is crazy! Do I think the December 2018 ‘Tis The Sea-Sun Boxy Luxe was worth almost $80.00 CAD? Definitely! The Violet Voss palette would have cost me $67.80 CAD at Sephora and I was already wanting to pick it up anyway, so for $12.00 CAD more I am able to try out 8 other products.
As far as trying out products from the November 2018 ‘Goal Digger’ Boxy Charm, I did end up trying out a few things. I did use the Ace Beaute-Grandoise Palette a few times and it was just as pigmented as the swatches I showed you in that post! I stayed closer to the ‘safe’ shades, Patchouli, Cinnamon, Clove, Jasmine and Myrtle, and they did all apply easily and blended out great. The Luxie-Luminous Eye Set brushes were great for placing colour exactly were you wanted it, but not so great for me when it came to blending them out. I know I tried out the Bodyography Makeup Bush Cleaner, but for the life of me I can’t remember what I thought about it, it has been over a month since I have worn makeup so I haven’t needed to clean any brushes. I will try it again and let you know once I start wearing makeup again…
