I have finally started using the Urban Decay Ultra Definition Powder in Light Neutral as a powder foundation. And since I have had this product forever, it seems like it may be hard to find, maybe getting discontinued?! I have looked at Urban Decay Canada, Sephora, and Beauty Boutique online and none of the sites are carrying this shade anymore. Urban Decay and Sephora both have a few darker shades and everything else is out of stock.
I had picked up the Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation in May of 2015…. I used it off and on as setting type powder since I picked it up, but it has really been the past month that I started using it as a powder foundation.
The packaging for the Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation is beautiful, but the shiny surface does pick up finger prints, etc very easily. The powder foundation is supposed to be able to be used either wet or dry with the included sponge. You get 9g of product as well as a sponge to apply it with. as you can see from the state of the sponge, I did try to use it both wet and dry. I didn’t like how it looked either way when I used the sponge, it looked heavy and cake-y and I had a hard time blending it in. I started using the Real Techniques Buffing Brush and loved how it looked! I found that I could easily get a light to medium coverage, enough to cover redness but not enough to cover an age spot that I have on my cheek. I loved the coverage that I got though, it was perfect since I wasn’t able to wear eye makeup and I just really wanted to even out my skin tone and look a bit more ‘alive’ when I went back to work. I was actually surprised at how well the powder foundation lasted on my skin. It easily lasted through an 8 hour workday for me. When I would wash my face at the end of the day, after 10 hours, I would have quite a bit of foundation coming off with my makeup wipe. It didn’t settle into my lines or pores either, everything I thought I knew about powder foundation; cake-y, dry looking, no lasting power, none of this held true with the Urban Decay. I actually got compliments on how good my skin looked! For me that was a big thing as I have always gone to work with a full face of makeup on, having had to go with only this powder and some blush, I was surprised.
As you can see from the sad state of the powder in the last picture that I used it a lot! I was having issues getting product on my brush, and also didn’t want to risk ruining my brush, so I decided I would try repressing the last bit into the middle of the pan so I could use up the last of it.
When I found that I couldn’t get the Light Neutral shade of the foundation I decided to try repressing the last bit of powder to get to the last of it. I first broke up the last of the powder and tried to get the pieces as fine as possible. I mixed in the 91% alcohol from an eye dropper until I had the consistency shown in the last picture. It only took a day or so for it harden and I am happily continuing to use the last bit left to me. I haven’t noticed any change in the powder since I did this which makes me happy.
Since I started using this product and have found that it is hard to find now has made me realize that maybe I have more than enough makeup to last me for awhile…. I decided to write this review even though I can’t get the product anymore, for those of you who may have this sitting around or have a darker complexion and can get this in your shade, and didn’t like it using the sponge. Try using a flat buffing brush instead, it completely changed my mind about powder foundation and I can’t wait to try out some more that I have in my collection.
And of course since I have already scheduled this post to go live, I have heard back from Urban Decay, and the Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation has in fact been discontinued 😞. As per the email I was sent there is no product to replace it as of yet.
